This weekend the streets of Ulverston will be splashed with colour as Another Fine Fest returns to the Cumbrian town.
The quirky cultural event is back with a bumper programme featuring an eclectic mix of music, comedy, art, street theatre and workshops. Over the Saturday and Sunday, the beer gardens, streets, windows, walls, cobbles, and even lamp posts will be awash with weird and wonderful activity.
And what’s even better, it’s free to attend. This is all thanks to the hard work and dedication of the local community — raising money and pitching in as volunteers. Another Fine Fest was created to celebrate the birth of Stan Laurel in the comedy hero’s hometown of Ulverston. That’s why every year the programme is full of fun, light-hearted events that everyone can enjoy.
Another Fine Fest 2023
No tribute to Stan Laurel would be complete without some laughs. And this year’s festival does just that with a bunch of Edinburgh Fringe preview shows.
But that’s not the only entertainment on offer. Street art and walkabout performances are another big part of the festival. You’ll find walls, windows and more turned into large-scale canvases over the weekend bringing some bright, bold art to the town. Street art workshops are running too, to give people the chance to help create a mural. Artists including Peachzz, T-On, Seca One and Reasm are going to add to the outdoor gallery.
Live music and cabaret performances are taking place across two outdoor stages, the Melodrome stage and Another Fine Stage. But it’s not just on stage that you’ll find the entertainment. Bands and musicians are playing in local bars and pubs too. And performers will be wandering around to offer quirky cabaret, magic, dancing and other tomfoolery. Look out for giant walking flowers, lots of bubbles and a solar-powered BoomBike Sound System.
In addition, there’ll be a fairground, stalls and tasty street food. There’ll be official festival bars and a community parade. So, there’s really something for everyone, young and old.
This is a festival that likes to do things differently and they’ll be making sure no waste goes to landfill, sending everything for recycling. They’ll also have plantable festival wristbands, to help the environment and raise funds.
