This summer, Hijinx returns to the stage and screen with a new, darkly playful Frankenstein tale for our age. Hijinx are an award-winning theatre company and as part of their Unity Festival in Wales this month, they’re presenting a couple of performances of the_crash.test.
the_crash.test is a provocative, funny, and visually immersive delight, set not too far in the future. It features a mix of motion capture puppetry, large-scale projection and original composition. And an inclusive cast of performers take to the stage and via video link, for both in-person and online audiences.
Hijinx is known for its pioneering and inclusive theatre work that’s original, surprising, edgy, and funny. And their newest production is no different. It draws a parallel to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and our relationship with technology. the_crash.test is a comedic venture into the world of A.I. and the robotic versions of ourselves we might create in the future.
The story follows tech start-up Figital, who are on a mission to create the next big thing; “the thing we never knew we wanted, but it turns out we all needed. A new thing-a-me-bob. Or ‘Bob’ for short”. However, they don’t quite know how it works. Or understand the consequences of their new creation!
the_crash.test is on in Bangor and Llanelli and is also available to watch online. If theatre’s your thing, click here for more!
