Lip-sync challenges and live street art at Another Fine Fest

Today and tomorrow, Ulverston will come alive with everything from live street art to lip sync challenges as Another Fine Fest returns to the Cumbrian town.

The quirky cultural festival is back with a bumper programme featuring an eclectic mix of music, comedy, art, street theatre and workshops. Over the weekend, the beer gardens, streets, windows, walls, cobbles, and even lamp posts become awash with weird and wonderful activity.

And what’s even better, it’s free to attend. This is all down to the hard work and dedication of the local community. The event was created to celebrate the birth of Stan Laurel and to celebrate the comedy hero’s hometown of Ulverston. That’s why every year the programme is full of fun and light-hearted events that everyone can enjoy.

This year’s festival sees a tropical beach party spring up in the centre of town, where you can chill out to a tropical vibe, seaside comedy and dry-land synchronised swimming. Or for the more energetic amongst you, there’s a high vibes dance workout and a hula hoop workshop. Wandering entertainment includes the Wheels of Steel cabaret and the Dinnerladies, who’ll be serving up silliness from their mobile tea trolley.

Live music and cabaret performances will also take place across two outdoor stages, the Melodrome stage and the Solar stage, as well as the locals bars and pubs, including Beer Wolf, the Rose & Crown, Amigos and The Mill.

Over the weekend, visitors will be able to watch everything from local bands to famous names playing. These include Blast Furness, Silly Peach, Sinini Ngwenya, and Boom Bike Bouree who mix medieval dance music with hip-hop, hurdy-gurdy and beatboxing. And there’s a chance for the tone deaf to sing with the Tuneless Choir.

Entertainment continues into the night with live music and comedy. And this year, there’s a feast for the eyes with laserlightlive. They’ll be taking the laser show to the next level with LEDs, fire poi spinners, dancers and a pixel suit robot.

Another Fine Fest will also feature live street art from artists including Peachzz, the Cunning Craftsman, and Fem Sorcell; along with a team of local artists who will be painting the windows of the shops and cafes, using the glass as their canvas.

In addition, there’ll be a fairground, stalls and a food court full of tasty street food. So, there’s really something for everyone, young and old.
