This weekend, life-size polar bear sculptures and an interactive robot snail will Light Up Lancaster. The event will see art installations, workshops and fireworks brighten up the city. Lancaster’s venues, historical buildings and public spaces will host the artworks and events. This includes the castle, Dalton Square and Kanteena.
It’s a family-friendly event with activities taking place throughout the daytime. However, it’s after dark that Light Up Lancaster really comes alive. And this year there’ll be some fun and fantastical installations to discover.
Witness a space launch with Lift Off at Lancaster Castle or find magnificent polar bears in the gardens at the Judges’ Lodgings. Luminous flora and fauna will decorate Dalton Square and an Imagined Insect will buzz into the Storey Courtyard. A waterfall of light will transform Lancaster Priory and Sun Square will become the home of Luna the friendly inflatable snail. There’s also interactive show, The Hourglass at Market Square and animated light sculptures in Storey Gardens.
Elsewhere projector bikes will tour around Lancaster and a forest of robotic flowers can be wandered through outside The Storey. A laser project provides a tonic, while a shop window trail and lantern parade adds to the light experience.
Then, on Saturday, fireworks will hit the night sky. The display will be viewable from wrist-banded areas or from the city centre. Other events over the weekend will include an art fair and live music.
