Spooky suppers and Halloween voyages in Greenwich

By Caroline King - October 27, 2021Posted in : Food & Drink, Heritage, Museum, TOP-STORY

Now that autumn has well and truly arrived, many of us are looking towards the end of the month and the fun celebration that is Halloween. And the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich has a trio of quirky themed events for you. There’s something for everyone, with both family-friendly and adult-orientated events.

What can you get up to this Halloween at the Old Royal Naval College? Well, the site has a long history, so it’s a place rich with tales of haunted happenings and spooky sightings. With this in mind, ghost tours are high on the agenda this year.

You can delve into regions dark and unexplored with ghoulish guides on a special Halloween Supper and Ghost Tour on 29th and 30th October. Hear some dark tales before enjoying a special two-course dinner in the Undercroft.  Or on 31st October take a Ghost Tour, followed with a late evening cocktail. Make sure you get into the spirit of things by going in costume as a prize will be awarded for the scariest get up!

If you’re heading to the Old Royal Naval College as a family, then go on a Halloween Voyage into the Unknown on 29th and 30th October. This event invites you to meet the 19th century Captain Sir John Franklin. He’ll regale you with stories about his long lost expedition through the Arctic. What was the fate of the ships HMS Terror and HMS Erebus? Go dressed as sailors and follow the spooky clues left by the missing crew members. Then, write your own story about what happened to their icy adventure.

If you’ve yet to explore the Old Royal Naval College, then you’re in for a treat. It’s the centrepiece of Maritime Greenwich and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Whether you’re heading to the Halloween events or just having a nosy around, don’t miss the glorious Painted Hall.
