Innovative dance in Myths & Dreams

By Caroline King - October 12, 2021Posted in : Dance, TOP-STORY

Catch a dance event that adds film and digital sculpture into the mix, to create the innovative Myths & Dreams. It’s a programme of performances by some of the North East’s best emerging talent. Presented by touring dance company Fertile Ground, it will head to Newcastle, Sunderland and Berwick this month.

Dreamy performances, inspired by myths

The captivating Myths & Dreams programme features works by four inventive choreographers, beginning with the artistic co-director Renaud Wiser’s Labyrinth. This inter-disciplinary work is inspired by the myth of the Minotaur. And it sees dancers immersed in and respond to a virtual environment created by sculptor Marie Lelouche.

The programme also features a stage adaptation of artistic co-director Malgorzata Dzierzon’s film Somnium. The piece looks to capture and express our dreams, memories, anxieties and desires at this time of change. It’s produced in collaboration with filmmaker Filipe Alcada and composer Oliver Oates, to create something beautiful and surreal.

And finally in the programme, is Plubel by rising European choreographers Fabritia D’Intino and Clémentine Vanlerberghe. Plubel is a hypnotic piece, finding individuality within a group of dancers. It also questions how the female figure is represented in dance.

Alongside Myths & Dreams, there will be an opportunity for you to experience the virtual sculptures featured in Labyrinth. Why not witness their full scale and beauty before watching dancers interact with these digital sculptures on stage?
