Tomorrow, Chagford Film Festival will open in Devon for a week of screenings and special events. Although it’s based in a little Dartmoor market town, every year it produces a big programme of film classics, new releases and a few quirky extras. And as 2021 is their 10th anniversary, they’ve added few celebratory events too.
Chagford is home to the Pepper Pot, which during the festival becomes Devon’s smallest cinema. Here, you can watch a variety of film shorts. Local pub, The Globe Inn turns its upstairs room into another bijou cinema space as well as the church, Jubilee Hall and the 16th century Endecott House all becoming venues too.
What’s on at Chagford Film Festival 2021?
Tonight, just before the official start of the festival, the Pepper Pot will be lit up with images of the last ten years of the festival. Then across the week there’ll be screenings of old and new films including The Father starring Olivia Colman and Anthony Hopkins, the Oscar-winning Nomadland and 1950’s classic Lady with a Lamp. There’s also the lovingly-restored film The Belstone Fox and dark comedy from Denmark, Another Round.
Special events include an Opening Extravaganza, a talk on Art Deco in cinema and an Exeter University Collaboration Day. Plus, there’ll be special intros and Q&As accompanying some of the screenings. This year, there’ll also be a selection of LGBT screenings including 2021 release, Supernova with Colin Firth and the popular classic, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Of course, Chagford Film Festival also embraces its quirky side. And this year is no exception with a movie-themed scarecrow trail and a screening of the film Stray that you can take your dog to. Don’t worry, your pooch doesn’t have to pay for a ticket as dogs go free! Plus, there’s a closing parade through the town.
Hand sanitiser will be available at screenings and you will be required to wear a mask when moving around inside venues.
