Discover the secret world of Kew’s plants at a late-night event

By Caroline King - July 1, 2021Posted in : Art, Classes & Workshops, Exhibition, Food & Drink, Nature and Outdoors, Science and Technology

This July, you can discover the Secret World of Plants at Kew’s after-hours events. As the last rays of light are cast across the gardens in Richmond, the secrets of the plant world are revealed.

These weekend, late-night events will give you an opportunity to visit Kew’s summer installations in a new light. You’ll be able to feast your senses with the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of nature, with pop-up performances, immersive installations and botanical cocktails.

An illuminating evening of botanical discovery

So, what can you expect from this series of Lates? You can discover the biodiversity of Britain’s hedgerows with artist Vaughn Bell’s Plantscape installation. Or head to the Galleries and see the brightest natural colours found on Earth.

In the illuminated Temperate House, you can surround yourself with Jason Singh’s hypnotic soundscape which uses the electrical impulses emitted by plants. And out on the Temperate House lawn, encounter pop-up performances of classical music inspired by nature and listen to Kew’s scientific experts.

You can breathe in the smell of rock roses in Please Be Seated, a bespoke outdoor installation. Or learn more about botanic fragrances in an interactive session.

Plus, there’ll be plant-based snacks and botanical cocktails to taste at the Pavilion Bar and Grill. What could be better than a dining experience amongst the trees? Of course, you’ll need to book in advance to bag yourself a table.

Fancy heading along this summer? Do check Kew’s COVID-19 guidance first. You’ll need to keep a social distance, use sanitiser and may need to wear a mask in some areas.

Love this mix of art and nature? Why not check out Wakehurst’s Summer of Sound too!

Where: In and around the Temperate House at Kew, Richmond, London TW9 3AE
£: Tickets cost £15 for members and £20 for non-members and will give you access to the event, but not to the rest of the gardens
