Emotional endings and new beginnings with poetic musical

By Caroline King - June 25, 2021Posted in : Theatre

Do we long more for a happy ending or for a new beginning? This summer, From Here: A New British Musical will explore how reaching for the end of one chapter, or the beginning of the next, may not provide us with the results we expect. The show will take you on a journey with the characters, as they deal with their situations.

From struggling to find friends in a school playground, to first dates, to learning to live again after finding yourself alone — these musically-interwoven stories tell of characters trying to decide whether to run headfirst into trying again or to stay put and hold fast. This world premiere considers where we might just find ourselves in five years.

A new musical

From Here: A New British Musical is by new writers Ben Barrow and Lucy Ireland. It’s a contemporary song-cycle that acts as a poetically conversational guide. It offers the perfect opportunity for audiences to reflect on where they are and where they’re going. And as we navigate out of a pandemic, it offers a chance to appreciate the middle of a moment too.

The cast for this new musical will include Grace Mouat (& Juliet, Shaftesbury Theatre; Hair, Turbine Theatre) and Andrew Patrick-Walker (Bat Out of Hell, London Coliseum; Brooklyn, Greenwich Theatre). They’ll be joined by Nicola Espallardo (The Pirate Queen, London Coliseum), and Aidan Harkins (The Importance of Being Earnest, Barn Theatre & Turbine Theatre).

It’s on at Chiswick Playhouse, as part of Recharged which is a festival of magic, musicals and comedy. Something that many of us could do with right now.
