This June, you can go on a magical adventure in Dorset, as Teatro Vivo bring their immersive adventure to the pretty village of Abbotsbury.
Ondine flows with the water around Abbotsbury, searching for a love that will make her human. But how can a water nymph climb the hill to St Catherine’s Chapel to beg a miracle husband from the saint herself? She needs adventurous souls to go on her quest.
Teatro Vivo invite you to enter the legend of Ondine, and explore an enchanted Abbotsbury, alongside performers from the local community, flying aerialists and unearthly characters. If you’re not yet ready for indoor theatre, this is the perfect performance for you. It all happens outdoors and will include a walk to the top of Chapel Hill. Of course our weather is a bit unpredictable, so dress for a ‘British summer’! And be ready for something magical.
Teatro Vivo’s enchanted theatre-walk
Combining the myth of Ondine (the basis for The Little Mermaid) and the legends and tales of St. Catherine’s Chapel in Abbotsbury, you will follow an enchanted route in small socially distanced groups, starting at the main car park in Abbotsbury. On the journey up the hill you will meet characters, singers, musicians, acrobats and mischievous imps who will help (or hinder) you on the task that Ondine has set for you.
You will be in small groups outdoors, with COVID-safe measures in place. So, everyone should feel safe as you journey up the hill.
Teatro Vivo are an award winning site-specific and immersive theatre company who have been telling stories in unusual places since 2005. Ondine is the first piece they have created in the South West, and is the beginning of a long-term relationship with the local area.
If you haven’t visited Abbotsbury before, then it’s a lovely, picture-postcard village set in the valley of the Ridgeway Hills. It’s a landscape made famous by Thomas Hardy and it’s close to Chesil Beach.
Not in Dorset? You can find more unusual theatre here!
