Are you dreading more home schooling? Has the fun, well and truly gone out of it? This week, vocal performers Tract + Touch, launched four free videos to bring the playful and outrageous back to learning.
The Wig Show is a participatory romp through voice and identity, aimed at children. These four short online videos offer parents and teachers a free resource to use at home and school. Wig Show aims to tap into our children’s silliness and playfulness.
Wig Show’s highly quirky vocal warm-up and workouts are an opportunity to exercise self-expression and creativity without the need for any equipment, materials or even preparation! They only require expression and every person’s particular uniqueness.
The videos aim to inspire children to explore the link between movement and the creation of vocal sound. They provide an understanding of playful phonetics, voice use, and enhance movement coordination. You can be what you want to be. Dance it out, voice it out, work it out!
The Wig Show workout videos have been adapted from Tract and Touch’s interactive show, which was due to go on tour before the pandemic hit. In its original form, Wig Show used no fewer than 56 wigs, encouraging audiences to try them on, juggle them, make rhythms and dance with them. Audiences could make crazy vocal sounds for the wigs and even ‘sing’ their voices.
This gentle and goofy activist show invited audiences to explore how identity doesn’t have to be fixed and how we can explore identity through our lifetimes.
If you’re looking for more family-friendly shows and activities to get you through lockdown, try these!
