Theatre festival staged in St Luke’s Bombed Out Church

By Caroline King - September 1, 2020Posted in : Cabaret, Comedy, Festival, Music, Theatre

Missed a summer of watching theatre and festival performances? A theatre festival in Liverpool is hoping to remedy that with a nine-day outdoor event.

Liverpool Theatre Festival will be taking place within the walls of St Luke’s Bombed Out Church, right in the heart of Liverpool city centre.

A festival in a unique Liverpool location

The festival will take place from Friday 11th September to Saturday 19th September 2020. A line-up of musical theatre, drama, comedy, cabaret, monologues and children’s shows, will offer something for everyone.

You can expect a mix of festival entertainment, including a pantomime mashup following a princess’ journey across the Mersey; Deathly Confessions, a series of chilling dark comedy monologues; and a scouse revival of John Godber’s legendary Shakers.

The festival has been created by Liverpool theatre producer Bill Elms, along with the team behind St Luke’s Bombed Out Church. It is hoped the event will support the city’s devastated theatre scene, which has suffered during the pandemic. So, a great cause to support if you can.

A socially-distanced day out

To make the event as safe as possible for you to attend, the capacity is being limited to allow for socially-distanced seating. There will be hand sanitiser stations, temperature checks before entry, and masks will be compulsory when moving round the venue. You are, of course, welcome to attend with your social bubble group.

Shows will be limited to one-act performances, lasting a maximum of 75 minutes to reduce audience movement. The cast and crew will also be socially-distanced and temperature checked. There will be a maximum of four performers for each show.

So, get your face mask ready and prepare for some socially-distanced festival-going. And keep your fingers crossed for more outdoor events in unusual locations this autumn!

When: 11th – 19th September 2020
Where: St Luke’s Bombed Out Church, Leece Street, Liverpool L1 2TR
£: Tickets cost from £10
