Forget the stuffy chin-scratching, there’s a new, more fun way to buy yourself some art and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
For 2020, the organisers of the Art Car Boot Fair (ACBF) have come up with an online version of their famously exuberant one-day event. The Viral Art Car Boot Fair will take place exclusively online on Sunday 20th September with a line-up of more than 100 artists.
The Art Car Boot Fair is a vibrant cross between an art fair and a car boot sale; a quintessentially British afternoon of art buying, mingling and entertainment. The event sees artists let their hair down, giving the car boot punters a rare chance to engage with art and the artists in an informal way (and pick up some real art bargains too). This year’s new format aims to bring some of this quirky vibe online.
Artists involved with this year’s online event include Gavin Turk, Pam Hogg, Jealous Gallery, Nina Fowler, Wildcat Will, Quiet British Accent, Polly Morgan, Pure Evil, and Art on a Postcard.
Each artist will have their own virtual car boot ‘pitch’ featuring not only their artworks, but also specially created films and live links direct to the artists’ studios. Just as with ACBF live events, the viral edition will offer direct access to some top artists, all of whom will be making work especially for the day and selling at ‘boot fair’ prices.
Expect virtual queues, waiting rooms, art drops, exclusive editions, lots of original artworks, artist-led experiences, and quirky interactions from artists like Mr Bingo and the Misfortune Teller.
A new membership programme is being launched alongside the car boot’s online debut. Members will be able to access the Viral Art Car Boot Fair, as well as all other upcoming digital events over the coming year. It will also include 25% off tickets for future live events, exclusive offers with ACBF partner organisations and discount vouchers redeemable on selected artworks. Memberships purchased before 1st September will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher to spend at this year’s fair.
Following the car boot, there’ll be another chance to scoop up some art bargains at a free access Everything Must Go event on Monday 21st September, from 6pm to 8pm.
