A virtual reality experience for two

By Caroline King - March 3, 2020Posted in : Exhibition, Theatre

This month, be part of an audience of two and enjoy a virtual reality experience at Battersea Arts Centre.

unReal City BAC
Explore a digital world with unReal City

March sees the first phase of an ambitious new project by leading site-responsive practitioners dreamthinkspeak and Access All Areas, an award-winning, disruptive company of learning disabled and autistic artists.

Using Virtual Reality technology, mixed reality and intimate live performance, unReal City begins to explore what personal connection means in a world that is increasingly digital.

Throughout the month, audiences will be invited to a Virtual Marketing Suite to discover their new home in London’s latest Smart City district. Guests will use VR technology to tour a private viewing of fully accessible, hi-tech apartments, and be invited to explore the city, meet other guests, and connect with future residents.

Through a cutting-edge use of VR technology developed with AllSeeingEye, unReal City begins to ask questions about how we relate to each other in our increasingly virtual world. Is it easier to connect in the digital world, or as an online avatar? Are connections necessarily more real or stronger in real life? Or can the digital world be a gateway to meet others and re-invent a new version of ourselves? Moreover, with cities getting smarter and technology being advocated as a tool for increasing accessibility across all areas of society, unReal City also aims to explore how new technology can both facilitate and limit social inclusion and human interaction for all of us.

unReal City at Battersea Arts Centre is the experimental first phase of a work-in-progress collaboration between two of the UK’s leading performing arts companies. The project will carry on developing after its run at Battersea Arts Centre, as the companies continue to test new uses of this technology.

When: Until 28th March 2020, 30 minute performances take place throughout the day
Where: Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill, London SW11 5TN
£: Tickets cost £10 – £15 (Suitable for ages 14+)
