The Mighty Deerstalker, Scotland’s original obstacle race, is an adventure run with a difference. This after dark event challenges the best dressed competitors over 5 and 10 mile courses, which start and finish at the picturesque Traquair House.
The race is notorious, not just for its challenging terrain with natural and man-made obstacles, but also for those who turn up looking fine and dandy with their tweed, moustaches and pipes. Competitors are encouraged to raid wardrobes and charity shops for waistcoats, deerstalker caps and kilts to run in. The race also requires good footwear and a strong headtorch!
New for this year, there will be the opportunity to take on an extra long challenge with the Double Stalker (be warned, it’s an extra 20 miles), or race a bit earlier with the Day Stalker.
After the race has finished, the fun really kicks off with an after party serving much needed food and local ale. Competitors who want to make an evening of it are encouraged to camp or book into a local hotel for the night.
This year’s event has been scaled back a little bit, due to the relentless weather conditions, so entrants are advised to keep checking the website for changes to the event.
Traquair House dates back to 1107 and was originally a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland. It is Scotland’s oldest inhabited house.
