This year’s Light Night Leeds will see spiritual creatures, optical illusions, a light maze, illuminated origami boats and a unique light cycling challenge take over the streets.
Free entertainment and installations will be spread across eleven zones, including Millennium Square, Town Hall, South Bank and Headrow. To launch this year’s event, an illuminated parade will take place, featuring monsters, LED drummers and giant twirling Lampadophores.
The Millennium Square Zone will feature Telekinetic Rumours, an immersive dream-like story fusing imagery, music and sound; and Guide, an hypnotic audio-visual experience.
The Town Hall Zone will feature Angels of Freedom, enticing passers-by; special Light Benches to sit on; and mesmerising optical illusions with Reflecting Holons. Visitors can also take behind the scenes tours of Leeds Central Library and enjoy late night opening at Leeds Art Gallery.
Meanwhile, the Headrow Zone will see events including the Heofon Light Maze; Swan Song, a symphony in St John’s churchyard; and Tales of the Mesmerist, a family show with clowning, dance and optical illusions.
Expect an urban playground and choir music at the Victoria Zone. Whilst the Briggate Zone will see LightBattle X, a unique light cycling challenge taking place.
The Station Zone events will include dynamic sculpture Pharos; and the Arena Zone will include a large-scale garland of LED lights. Meanwhile, the Temple Zone will feature fire dancing and tricks in Fire ‘n’ Light; and Halo, an immersive sculpture bringing people together.
There’ll be interactive artwork Happiness Sum, 12 foot high illuminated armoured knights, and more than 100 illuminated origami boats in the South Bank Zone. Finally, enjoy a Portal of Reflection and a Beacon of Happiness at the SOYO Zone; and a nine metre high revolving poem machine at the University Zone.
