This weekend, head to Silvertown Quays for a magical experience with an event inspired by the Thai festival of Loi Krathong.
Wishful is the free finale to this year’s Join the Docks festival and will feature a spectacular display of light, water and colour.
Expect giant gliding swans, an illuminated mechanical garden, floating lanterns, performance, puppetry, fireworks and more when Wishful takes over Silvertown Quays for the evening of Saturday 28th September.
Visitors are invited to wander and explore a gigantic illuminated mechanical garden as well as grab some food and drink, before joining a carnival procession. After the procession, visitors will watch as floating wishing lantern shrines are launched into the water, lighting the way for a show of gliding giant swans, an operatic moon goddess and a local community cast performing devised dance pieces. The night will end in a shower of fireworks against the backdrop of Millennium Mills.
As well as inviting all attendees to join the procession, earlier in the day, there will be workshops taking place at Crystal Gardens and Silvertown Quays where participants can help make lanterns for the show.
Taking inspiration from Thai water festivals, these creative making workshops will involve making seedpod-shaped illuminated lanterns. Participants will imbue their creations with their hopes and wishes and then on the night, be invited to set them floating on the quay as part of the show.
