Have a go at playing the bagpipes, watch street pipe bands and listen to classical pipe music in Scotland’s oldest purpose built concert hall.
Piping Live! will take place in Glasgow, from Saturday 10th to Sunday 18th August, with more than 150 events during the festival week.
Piping Live! is an international piping festival and this year’s events will include piping competitions, have-a-go sessions, museum tours, music sessions, whisky tasting, unique concerts, exhibitions, and pipe band parades.
Highlights during the week will include Pipe Idol, live music at Friday Night Folk, the Masters Solo Piping Competition, the World Pipe Band Championships, Gigs in the Gallery showcasing Highland, Irish and Swedish piping, Gaelic lessons, late night sessions at the Festival Club, and bands marching through the city with Beat the Retreat.
Why not take a tour of the Museum of Piping and discover the treasures, music and history of the Great Highland Bagpipe? For those who would like to get more hands on, there are sessions where you can have a go at the pipes yourself at the Collinson Room and Waxy O’Connor’s. For a truly alternative tour, why not discover Scotland’s five most prominent piping locations through their distilleries with a Piping Whisky Tasting?
There is a Family Fun Day on Tuesday 13th August with activities including musical storytelling, pipe band performances, a chance to get hands on with instruments, and arts and crafts.
There will be a full day of events on Glasgow Green on Saturday 17th August for the World Pipe Band Championships. The competition will feature more than 200 performances as well as Highland dancing, Highland Games and family entertainment.
