Quirky scarecrows take over Kettlewell in Yorkshire

By Caroline King - August 8, 2019Posted in : Festival

Discover a host of quirky characters at this year’s Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival in the Yorkshire Dales.

Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival 2014 - North Yorkshire

Scarecrows first came to Kettlewell in 1994 as a way of raising money for the local school, and so it is fitting that for this year’s Silver Jubilee festival they will be celebrating the news and personalities from that year.

Kettlewell itself is a picturesque Yorkshire Dales village and visitors are encouraged to explore some of the more unusual nooks and crannies around the area during the festival.

Walk the Scarecrow Trail and see what you find hidden around the corner. The trail challenges participants to solve the riddles to find the mystery word. It takes around two hours to complete, and there are daily prizes up for grabs during the festival. There’s a trail for adults and one for children to follow.

Refreshments, including homemade cake, will be served in the village hall, and there are plenty of pubs for those who would like something a bit stronger.

Money raised during Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival will go towards the school, village hall, church and other community projects.

When: 10th – 18th August 2019
Where: Kettlewell, North Yorkshire
£: A trail sheet costs £1. Parking costs £3.
