Enjoy nine days of eclectic events on the UK’s most northerly island, including bicycle obstacle courses and gin tours, as Unstfest gets under way.

Unstfest Carnival
The Unstfest Carnival

This year, the festival will be hosting a range of events, with everything from gin tours and meadowsong workshops, to a mini Olympics and bicycle obstacle course. One of the festival highlights will be the carnival complete with a squad of Vikings.

The festival will kick off on Saturday 13th July with a glass making class, beach tidy, half marathon, a netball tournament, a dance performance and live music.

The rest of the first weekend will see a farmers’ market, a nature walk, a meadowsong workshop, yoga, and a dolphin and whale display.

Throughout the week there will be a Boccia taster session, a supper night with Vikings, dodgeball and frisbee tournaments, a swap shop, a twilight mystery tour, a fencing tryout session, a mini Olympics and a sailing session.

Events on the Friday will include an interactive Gruffalo walk, a Viking galley shed open day, knitting and spinning sessions, and a car quest.

The final weekend of the festival will feature harbour tours on a Viking boat, gin tours, storytelling, the Unstfest carnival, a sand sculpture competition and bike obstacle course.

When: 13th – 21st July 2019
Where: At venues across Unst
£: No tickets required for events – most are either free or have a small fee to cover costs
