Vikings are heading to the Lancashire coast this weekend as the 4th Heysham Viking Festival gets under way, with battles, parades, talks and living history camps.

The festival is a chance for history lovers of all ages to come together and enjoy a unique family day out. Events will include history tours, talks, guided walks and children’s activities, taking place over the course of the two days.

There will be a weapons display and battle re-enactments, all brought to you by an enthusiastic team of Viking re-enactors from across the UK. In addition to the educational programme and events, there will also be a range of craft and food stalls and a fun fair, providing entertainment for big kids and little kids alike.

The North West of England has a fascinating and bloody Viking history, and the events planned over the course of the festival weekend will explore that past in much more detail; giving a real insight into what life was like under Viking rule.

As well as the festival, visitors to Heysham village over the course of the weekend can enjoy the range of local cafes and small businesses which will be welcoming the crowds.

When: 20th & 21st July 2019, from 10.30am
Where: Heysham village, Lancashire
£: Free (donations towards the running of the festival are most welcome)
