This summer, head to the UK coast for a host of quirky contests and family-friendly nautical-themed entertainment.
Charlestown Regatta
Charlestown Regatta is a week-long nautical event, that aims to bring fun and entertainment to the area, for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
This year’s events, from 27th July to 2nd August, include raft races, the crowning of the Carnival Queen, a treasure hunt, water polo, and the Regatta Challenge Gig Race. Sea Sunday events will include a nautical themed afternoon with live music, craft stalls, a BBQ and a pasty workshop.

Blakeney Regatta
Blakeney Regatta is probably best known for its greasy pole contest, but the event also features crab catching and sandcastle building.
This year’s event takes place from 31st July to 4th August, with an eclectic mix of aquatic and rural sports.

Shaldon Water Carnival
Shaldon Water Carnival is a cross between a carnival and a regatta, with an emphasis on quirky family fun.
The parade of decorated boats is always the highlight of the event, but there is a full programme of events to enjoy including a fancy dress parade, crab, sand sculpture and chalk drawing competitions, live music, novelty games and children’s entertainers.

Salcombe Town Regatta
Every year, Salcombe goes all out with their programme of events. For the 2019 regatta, there will be the Bang & Go Back Race, a pub quiz trail, an island street party, a mud race, beach yoga, a fancy dress parade, crab catching, greasy pole contest, raft races and a sandcastle competition.
There will also be an ice cream eating competition, a harbour swim, live music, and children’s shows, as well as rowing and sailing events.
