Watch the folding bike final in London

By Caroline King - July 25, 2019Posted in : Alternative Sport

Watch competitors, dressed in their best city style, compete on folding bikes around Central London as the finals of the 2019 Brompton World Championship take place.

Brompton World Championship
A mad dash at the beginning of the race

The championship sees competitors completing a 16K circuit, with eight laps around St James’ Park, past Buckingham Palace and along The Mall. The race will begin with a Le Mans-style mad dash to the bikes, with competitors quickly unfolding them, before racing the circuit as fast as possible.

Unlike lycra-clad cycling events, such as the Tour de France, the participants must dress in smart commuter-style wear, with no sportswear in sight. So expect to see a blur of shirted competitors, dressed in a range of ties, bow ties, jackets and hats.

Prizes will be awarded on the day for the fastest three males and females, the fastest veteran male and female, the best dressed male and female competitors, as well as the fastest teams.

The championship is part of the Prudential RideLondon event, that will have a variety of cycle races and rides, for both professional and amateur cyclists. There will also be a free Cycle Show with Street Velodrome events, special guests and presentations, and exhibitor stands.

When: 3rd August 2019
Where: Central London
£: Free to watch. Access to the hospitality area on The Mall costs £10 – £20
