This month, Barrow is challenging competitors to beat Eddie the Eagle at an alternative sporting event.
Barrow’s Super Soapbox Challenge will see fun and entertaining, gravity-powered soapboxes racing against one another in a knockout competition.
The course will run for 350 metres along Dalton Road, with teams setting off from a starting ramp at timed intervals. All the action will be available on big screens, along with racing commentary, so spectators won’t miss a thing.
The first cart to take off down the starting ramp will be English ski-jumper and celebrity Eddie the Eagle. Teams will follow Eddie in the hope of beating his time and claiming glory.
This year’s competing teams will win prizes for the winning cart, as well as most innovative cart design, best turned out soapbox crew, and joker of the day.
In addition to the racing, there will be a funfair, live music, and food and drink. The community event is free at attend and will be raising money for charity.
