Ilfracombe’s quirky week-long celebration

By Caroline King - June 15, 2019Posted in : Alternative Sport, Cabaret, Classes & Workshops, Dance, Fair, FEATURED-STORIES, Festival, Food & Drink, Heritage, Music, Walks

Head to the North Devon coastal town of Ilfracombe this month for a host of quirky events, from parasol duelling to teapot racing.

Ilfracombe Victorian Celebration
Victorian and steampunk characters take over Ilfracombe for annual celebration

The Victorians were responsible for developing Ilfracombe into a magnificent seaside resort, making it the perfect place to hold a celebration of all things Victorian.

Visitors to Ilfracombe’s annual Victorian celebration will be able to see members of the town dressed up in costume, watch parades and shows, and take part in a daily programme of events. And this year, there will be an added steampunk element to the festivities, with live steampunk bands and costumed characters.

This year’s Ilfracombe Steampunk Day & Victorian Celebration will feature parades, competitions, music, dancing, games, walks, talks, crafts, fireworks and plenty of tea and cake.

This year’s quirky festival highlights will include a crazy golf competition, best hat and face fuzz contests, croquet and high tea, an illicit market, a Victorian feast, parasol duelling, a masked ball and a time traveller’s ball, a Pearlie parade, bathing belles and beaus, tea duelling, a candlelight parade, and new for 2019, teapot racing!

When: 15th – 23rd June 2019
Where: Ifracombe, North Devon
£: Free admission (there is a charge for some activities)
