The Squire of Pockerley is inviting visitors to join him this weekend at Beamish, for all fun of the Georgian Fair.
Consult the quack doctor, marvel at the fire eater and magician, be entertained by the flea circus and travelling showman, meet the alpacas, falcons and ferrets, and turn detective to help the parish constable investigate Joe the Quilter’s murder.
Watch skilled craftspeople at work, try on Georgian costumes, enjoy clog dancing and the Northumbrian piper, browse the stalls, have a go at Georgian games and sample traditional gingerbread.
Visitors will be recruited by the Squire at his hiring fair: will they be shepherds, bird scarers, dairy maids, gardeners or labourers?
The 16th Light Dragoons and the Durham 68th Regiment of Foot will be setting up camp on the Saturday and Sunday. Also taking place at Beamish over the weekend is the Meccano Exhibition, held by the North East Meccano Society.
The Georgian Fair and Meccano Exhibition are included in admission to Beamish and are free to Unlimited Pass holders and Friends of Beamish members.
