The people of Morpeth will be welcoming visitors to the town as they showcase Northumberland’s traditions in their annual festival of music, dance, craft and dialect.
This year’s Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering will take place from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th April, with a special ‘Ower the Watter’ theme, celebrating the area’s international music links.
This will be the 52nd Northumbrian Gathering, which will kick off on the Friday with traditional art and craft exhibitions, dance workshops, poetry, live music and storytelling. There will also be outdoor entertainment including Punch & Judy and RentaPeasant, as well as a chance for adults to learn to play the pipes in a day.
On the Saturday, there will be more entertainment including clog dancing and seed sowing workshops, living history events, a knights’ tournament and children’s storytelling. In addition, there will be a costumed pageant, music sessions and an open day at Morpeth Castle. There will also be competitions in clog dancing, speaking and dialect, singing and pipe playing.
The gathering will round off on the Sunday with orienteering, crafts, exhibitions, songs of the sea, living history activities, a hand bell workshop and tours of the town hall.
