The hidden histories of London’s unsung heroines

By Caroline King - February 13, 2019Posted in : FEATURED-STORIES, Literature

London Undercurrents is a collaboration by two London-based female poets Joolz Sparkes and Hilaire, revealing the hidden histories of unsung heroines, north and south of the river.

This poetry cycle aims to give a voice to women who often go unheard. There are thousands of women, extraordinary, ordinary, famous or forgotten who have plenty to say and deserve to be heard. Through the book, the authors share the hidden histories of London’s unsung heroines that they have uncovered in their neighbourhoods north and south of the river.

These two London-based female poets, Joolz Sparkes and Hilaire have each contributed poems inspired by the women past and present in their respective neighbourhoods of Islington and Battersea.

London Undercurrents shows that the personal is also universal and casts women as the central characters of their own story; capturing the spirit, image and diversity of London.

London Undercurrents is priced at £10 and will be published by Holland Park Press on 28th March.
