What is it?

Arts Charity Settle Stories is to screen a creative documentary, The Poetics Of Fragility, at The Joinery in Settle.  The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the filmmaker, live from India.

The Poetics of Fragility explores the idea of fragility in human life and nature.  The film was first shown in 2016 and has been screened internationally, including in India, America and London.

In The Poetics of Fragility, filmmaker Lata Mani interweaves fragments of individuals’ stories with optical vignettes of nature’s delicacy, to reclaim fragility as intrinsic to existence, not something to be bemoaned or overcome.

The film was shot in the San Francisco Bay Area and Buenos Aires.  It features, amongst others, internationally renowned scholar-activist Angela Davis, the acclaimed US playwright Cherrie Moraga and Nora Cortiñas, the inspiring founding member of Madres de Plaza de Mayo Linea Fundadora, Argentina.  The contemplative film (scripted by Mani and shot by Nicolás Grandi) explores documentary as a sensuous tool for social inquiry with a philosophical impulse.

The screening is part of Settle Stories Autumn/Winter Events Season, and will take place at 3pm on Sunday 11th November.  The Q&A session will follow immediately after the screening.

Settle Stories uses the transformative power of story to change lives, gathering people together, bringing into focus hidden stories and enabling the vulnerable and disenfranchised to have a voice.

Settle Stories flagship festival and year round events aim to be refreshing, dynamic and unexpected. Their Learning Programme touches the lives of over 6,000 children in schools every year.  Settle Stories also helps community groups discover the power of the arts, often for the first time, and welcome everyone to discover how story can change lives through a programme of workshops, courses and retreats.
