What is it?

Tenterden Folk Festival will take place from Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th October with four days of folk music, dance, craft and traditions.

This year’s festival will include live music, folk sessions, traditional dance performances, a craft fair, street stalls, and a real ale bar.  Events will take place across the town with the high street, bars, pubs, churches, the museum and recreation ground all being taken over with live music and dance performances.

Festival highlights will include a concert on the Thursday evening, a welcome Barn Dance on the Friday and folk opera Here at the Fair on the Saturday.  This year’s festival will feature guest performances from Steve Turner, Julie Felix and 4 x 4 Bhangra.

There will be a free music stage at the recreation ground on the Saturday and Sunday, offering visitors a taste of the folk festival entertainment.  There will also be craft stalls, musical instruments, handmade jewellery, wood-turning, speciality foods, ice cream, a real ale bar and refreshments in the marquees at the recreation ground.

Expect plenty of traditional dance and music performances

Traditional dance performances, in a variety of styles, will take place over the weekend. There will be performances from Arkwrights Steppers, Black Swan Border Morris, Chingford Morris Men, Bunnies from Hell, Anglefoot Appalachian Cloggers and Kitka Bulgarian Folklore Group amongst others.

Tenterden Folk Festival is a charity formed to preserve and advance public education and appreciation of folk music, song, dance, crafts and traditions as part of the living heritage.

Tenterden, situated in the ancient Weald of Kent, about 12 miles west of Ashford, is an ideal setting for this friendly, family folk festival.  It features one of the widest high streets in the country, lined with historic and listed buildings, numerous friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants and green verges.
