What is it?
Porthcawl Elvis Festival is an annual event which sees thousands of Elvis fans descend on the Welsh seaside town for a unique celebration of The King. This year’s festival takes place from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th September.
The festival has been going since 2004 and is said to be the biggest Elvis festival in Europe, with 20 local venues taking part and more than 100 shows to enjoy.
During the festival, shows take place in the Grand Pavilion including The Elvies, the world’s leading award show for Elvis tribute artists. There are 100 ETAs (or Elvis tribute artists) expected over the festival weekend. The festival kicks off on the Friday with heat one of the Elvis competition, and a show featuring three top Elvis tribute acts.
Hi Tide will be hosting more than 100 shows during the weekend, with free admission to the Harbour Lights Bar and Bayroom shows. There will also be a family zone opposite the Grand Pavilion with quirky events including an Elvis themed park run, the best dressed hound dog, a Hawaiian shirt contest, and a Priscilla Queen of the Prom Parade.
Powthcawl is a popular seaside town in South Wales with a promenade, pavilion, funfair and sandy beaches. The town also hosts a jazz festival and a surf festival throughout the year.
