Masham Sheep Fair 2018 - Contrary Life - Yorkshire Dales events

There’ll be plenty of these woolly creatures at Masham Sheep Fair

When: 29th & 30th September 2018

Where: Masham, North Yorkshire

£: Free

What is it?

The annual Masham Sheep Fair will take place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September, in the North Yorkshire market town.

Masham’s pretty market square was once famous for its sheep sales, where as many as 70,000 sheep were sold each year.  Masham Sheep Fair commemorates these times, raising money for charity whilst filling the town with sheep-themed entertainment.

This year’s events and entertainment will include a sheep show, sheep racing, a craft market, fleece stalls, a wool competition, sheepdog demonstrations, hand bell ringers, a flower festival, processions, Morris dancers, an art exhibition, a children’s fair, and tours of Theakstons & Black Sheep Breweries.

The Sheep Fair began just over 30 years ago as a one-off to raise money for farmers in Africa. It was so successful that it became an annual event, and now raises money for local charities.
