What is it?

Having taken picnickers and movie lovers to iconic locations, including castles, forests and national trust properties over the years; this month Picnic Cinema will be bringing their big screen to the Festival of Thrift.

Picnic Cinema will be heading to Kirkleatham, Redcar, for a showing of Moulin Rouge (12A) on Saturday 22nd September.  Expect a night of feather boas, fishnets and romance at their infamous Burlesque Ball.

The evening will feature a screening of Baz Luhrmann’s frenetic love story Moulin Rouge, plus Balkan beats, Middle Eastern grooves and electro swing on the sound system.  For those who really want to make the most of the night,  camping in the grounds of Kirkleatham Estate will be available, allowing visitors to enjoy two days of the Festival of Thrift.

Now in its sixth year, the free Festival of Thrift returns to Kirkleatham with an expanded programme running from 10am to 5pm over the weekend.  Featuring a wide mix of art, crafts and businesses from across the region and the UK, the imaginative festival is said to be the UK’s only national celebration of sustainable living.

Far more than just an outdoor cinema, the full Picnic Cinema experience includes dressing up, camping over, and letting your hair down. The events feature fun and games before the film, as well as music, dancing and many more surprises throughout the evening.
