What is it?

Sky Blue Theatre’s Seventh Annual Theatre Challenge will take place at the Brockley Jack Studio Theatre in London, from Tuesday 28th August to Saturday 1st September.

Sky Blue Theatre will present five very different plays, wrapped into one evening.  Join their international new writing event for a night of diverse, exciting and award-winning plays from around the world.

This year, 274 new short plays were submitted from 16 different countries, making this the biggest challenge yet.  From these entries, this year’s five winning plays have been selected.

2045 by Scott Lummer, explores the impact of new technology on humanity as a whole.  Tagged by Jim Moss is an intriguing and disturbing piece delivering a thought-provoking ending.  Teatime by Sheila Cowley is an original play about people under siege, making home and family with who and what they have.  Accident of Birth by Trevor Suthers tells the story of a Broadmoor inmate who is reluctantly visited by his birth mother, who he has never met.  And finally, Bunnies and Wolves by Elspeth Tilley promises a biting satire on the health service and online marketing ploys.

Throughout the week audience members will be able to vote for the play they believe to be the best piece of writing. The winning writer will then be presented with the Anne Bartram Playwright Award.
