What is it?
The 58th Shaldon Water Carnival Day will take place on Saturday 4th August in Devon. This year, the quirky water-themed event will feature a day of entertainment including novelty games, crab collecting competitions and decorated boat parades.
The Carnival Day will begin at 10am with the grand opening, this will be followed by novelty games including ‘slide a pint’ and ‘hook a crab’. The morning will also feature beach stalls, craft stalls, candy floss and refreshments on Marine Parade.
There will be lots of quirky children’s competitions to take part in, including crab collecting, sand sculptures, and chalk drawing. A fancy dress parade, for children and adults, will make its way to the beach in the early afternoon. At the beach there will be entertainment including live music, a magic show, balloon animals, and an RNLI demonstration.
One of the main highlights will be the decorated boat parades in the Teign Estuary from 4pm. This popular event draws hundreds of spectators along both sides of the estuary to watch the colourful display of boats. Previous boats in the parade have been decorated as the car from Ghostbusters, the Yellow Submarine and a Punch & Judy theatre.
The event will continue into the evening with a children’s disco, live music and hot food.
