What is it?
Dartmouth Royal Regatta will take place from Thursday 30th to Saturday 1st September with a host of sailing events, live music and fun competitions.
Some of this year’s more unusual events will include Waiters and Waitresses Races, Barrel Rolling, a Trolley Grand Prix, an Ice Cream Eating Competition, a Waterborne Treasurer Hunt, a Crab Fishing Competition and a Pavement Artists Competition.
Other events will include a Steam Boat Rally, Stand Up Paddle-boarding, an Illuminated River Procession and Flyboarding with James Prestwood.
There will also be Dinghy Racing, a Regatta Great Gatsby Ball, a Junior Scavenger Hunt, Offshore Yacht Racing, a street market, a Family Fun Zone, a Fancy Dress Competition, entertainment from Elfic the Jester, Pilot Gig Racing, a fun run, a road race, and an RNLI Search and Rescue Demonstration.
The regatta officially begins on the Thursday but a daily programme of events will run throughout the week, with entertainment for all ages.
On the Friday, crews from the Royal Naval Ships will be taking part in a barrel rolling race, this will be followed by the infamous Trolley Grand Prix.
Also on the Friday, the Waiters and Waitresses Race will be taking place, with local workers competing against one another. The waiter or waitress to cross the line with the most liquid left in a pint glass will be declared the winner.
