Dorset’s Seafood Festival
When: 14th – 15th July 2018
Where: Weymouth Harbour, Dorset
£: Free
What is it?
This year’s Dorset Seafood Festival will take place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July at Weymouth Harbour, with crabbing competitions, sea shanty singing and hands on activities.
The weekend will include champagne, seafood, and fish cookery demonstrations and tutorials, drinks tasting sessions, beer and food matching events, a festival trail and family activities.
The captain and crew of one of the new Fisheries Protection Squadron vessels will be looking forward to welcoming families on board; all in support of the Fishermen’s Mission. The mission of the Fishery Protection Squadron is to patrol the fishery limits of England, Wales and Northern Ireland; an area that covers over 80,000 square miles of sea and stretches up to 200 miles from the coastline.
Seafood, crabbing and activities for all
The seafood festival will be welcoming back old favourites, the Shanty Band, and Dorset Rock Choir will also be performing over the weekend.
This year’s family activities will include sea themed workshops, from basket weaving and knot tying to lobster pot making. One of the highlights will be the Crabbing Competition, hosted by Weymouth Angling.
There will also be slime making, rock painting, face painting and fishy magic from the Great Baldini.
With the emphasis on responsibly sourced seafood from the region where possible, the Dorset Seafood Festival helps to raise money for the Fishermen’s Mission charity.
