What is it?

This year’s Cumbria Steam Gathering will take place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July at Cark Airfield.

For over four decades, the Cumbria Steam & Vintage Vehicle Society has been bringing together vintage vehicles from far and wide to the airfield in Flookburgh, for one massive summer gathering.

Quirky highlights at this year’s gathering will include lawn mower racing, Mr Alexanders Travelling Show, quad bike stunts from the Kangaroo Kid, and the chance to enjoy a vintage high tea (vintage attire is encouraged).

The Pantonic All Stars Orchestra will return again to this year’s gathering, with their steel band.

There will be demonstrations of agricultural machinery, including a threshing demo and some lawn mower racing, a low-cost version of motor racing.  There is even the promise of a steam-powered Land Rover at this year’s festivities.

The 2018 Cumbria Steam Gathering will be representing the whole spectrum of classic and vintage vehicles that have been lovingly and painstakingly brought back into use, many from near scrap condition.  There will be more than 1,000 exhibits at this year’s event, with no vehicle built later than 1985.

There will be displays of artefacts and skills from bygone days, as well as crafts, food and local produce.  There will also be an array of trade stands, and for those who are involved in a restoration project, Autojumble stalls will have plenty of spare parts.
