What is it?
This year’s Woolfest will take place in Cumbria on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd June. The festival is a celebration of British wool and has been taking place annually since 2005.
Woolfest kicks off on Friday at 10am and continues until 5pm on Saturday, with a range of demonstrations, stalls, exhibitions and workshops. There will also be a fleece sale, where hundreds of raw fleeces from various breeders are sold to people for spinning.
On the Friday evening, after 6pm, the Spin In takes place. The evening gives wool and craft enthusiasts a chance to get together and share stories. There will be demonstrations taking place throughout each day on everything from how to make felt and crocheted flowers, to lino cutting, decorative tapestry and button making.
There will be various events taking place over the two days, with sheep shearing, a rare breeds parade and talks taking place in the main ring. Other events will include a From Fell to Fabulous fashion exhibition and a display of wool flowers.
There will be plenty of wool related stalls to browse at this year’s event, including Charlotte Chaplin Herdwick Tweeds, Cotswold Alpacas, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Exmoor Horn Sheep Breeders Society, Fiery Felts, Herdwick Sheepbreeders Association, Highland Hats, Norwegian Wool, Ragpuss Vintage Textiles, Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) Cumbria, Sheep on Mars, The Border Tart and Wonderwool Wales.
Woolfest is organised by members of The Wool Clip, an award-winning co-operative of Cumbrian based crafts people.
