Join a celebration of fabric, fibres, yarns, sewing and South East London’s cultural heritage at a city farm this weekend.
The South East London Wool and Textiles Festival will be held on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July at Woodlands Farm on Shooter’s Hill. Organised by the South East London Textiles Society, the festival will bring together artists and designers with the local community, to celebrate textile art being made, worn, and used in South East London.
Events over the weekend will include affordable workshops for adults and children to learn about textiles, crafts, art and design; and talks and presentations by professional artists and organisations about the history of textiles in the local area and of the cultural importance of textiles to local communities.
Textile Work by artist Caroline Hands
The festival will feature a workshop to create a community quilt, an exhibition of work by local children, community groups and artists, stalls selling textile products and materials from businesses in the area, and Knit & Knatter meetups. There will also be a textile heirlooms sharing event, where visitors can bring along their family heirlooms and share stories surrounding them.
Visitors will also be able wander around the farm and meet the animals whilst they are at the festival.
