What is it?

This month, enjoy a special musical experience in a magical grotto, as the highly acclaimed Yehudi Menuhin School perform an exclusive classical music concert in Surrey.

The Yehudi Menuhin School will perform in the beautiful setting of Painshill’s Crystal Grotto.  The Crystal Grotto is a folly that was originally created back in the 1760s.  The folly was made to look like a hidden cave, with shimmering crystals adorning it.  The grotto can be found inside the landscaped gardens of Painshill in Surrey.

Painshill is one of Europe’s most important 18th century landscape gardens. The 158-acre landscape garden represents the vision of an English gentleman, The Hon. Charles Hamilton. Inspired by Renaissance art and his Grand Tours across Europe, he created a sequence of breath-taking and surprising vistas. The landscapes, originally created between 1738 and 1773, form living works of art into which Hamilton placed follies for dramatic effect.

Painshill has undergone significant restoration in recent years. The Visitor Centre, which was opened in 2001, welcomes over 75,000 visitors every year.
