Red Bull Cut It Lawn Mower Racing Somerset 2018

The fast-paced world of lawn mower racing

When: 9th June 2018

Where: Chestnut House, Old Coach Road, Lower Weare, Axbridge, Somerset BS26 2JB

£: Free to watch

What is it?

This weekend, swap mowing the lawn with something a little more exciting, as Red Bull’s Cut It arrives in Cheddar, Somerset.

The lawn mower racing event is free to watch and spectators will be able to watch competitors race around three specially devised courses, reaching speeds up to 50mph.  There will be five different events taking place during the day, including a time trail, a drag race and an eliminator race.

The machines used for racing are modified ride-on mowers with the cutting blades removed.  Lawn mower racing isn’t a new invention as the first race is thought to have taken place 1968.  A few years later, in 1973, the sport as we know it today was formed over a few pints in a West Sussex pub.  There is even a British Lawn Mower Racing Association for the sport.

Red Bull’s event is new for this year, and promises an action-packed course with twists, turns, jumps and rollers.  There will also be a chance for spectators to have a go on a racing lawn mower.
