What is it?

Jane Austen Regency Week is an annual nine-day festival, held in Alton and Chawton, Hampshire, celebrating the much-loved author. This year’s event will take place from Saturday 16th to Sunday 24th June, with music, talks, workshops, dancing and tours.

This will be the 11th annual Jane Austen Regency Week, and this year’s event will begin on the Saturday with Alton Regency Day, a free, family friendly celebration with horse and carriage rides (fare payable), petting animals, market stalls, Hampshire Farmers’ Market, music, folk dancing, soldier re-enactors and regency costumed characters.  Visitors are encouraged to go along in period dress.  Saturday events will also include a Regency Dancing Workshop and Alton Regency Ball.

Sunday’s events will feature a garden tour and cream tea, an author talk, choral music, an antique and craft fair, and a Chawton guided walk taking in Jane Austen’s House Museum and Chawton House Library.

Events will continue during the week with curator tours, literary discussions, a museum open evening, Regency Remedies, an organ concert, Wyards Farm tour and cream tea, an English paper piercing workshop, and a tour of Gilbert White’s 18th Century Garden.  The final weekend will see Playford Dancing, a Regency Musical Soiree, and a Regency Supper take place.
