What is it?
This year’s Catch the Wind Kite Festival will take place on The Promenade and at The Platform in Morecambe, on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June.
The event will see kites of all shapes and sizes flown by professional kites flyers. Visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own kites to fly. Over the weekend there will live music, arts and crafts, street entertainment, stalls and children’s activities, including kite making workshops in the Arndale Centre.
This year there will be live entertainment on stage from Hiroshima Twinkie, Amani Collective, Charlie Nicholls, Jess Gardham, Carlie Mai, and Phil Saunders, on the Saturday. There will also be promenading acts including Gacko, Baybeat Streetband and Ludus Youth Dance Company.
On the Sunday the live stage will welcome Boom Bike Bourrée, Baybeat Streetband, Honk! (Lancashire County Streetband), Corvidae, Ubunye, Maggie McCreath and Howard Haigh. Watch out for the likes of Gacko and the Pete Moser One Man Band wandering about.
Other entertainment over the festival weekend will include performances by choirs from across the North West, inside The Platform venue, and family favourite The Imaginarium with storytellers, magicians and circus artistes performing. New for this year will be The Fishing Hut, a fun and magical pop up gallery in the form of a fisherman’s boat shed on wheels. The shed has been created by Morecambe Bay artists John Fox and Hannah Fox, and features video animations, woodcuts, printed images and music soundscapes, along with hand-crafted books containing stories of the bay.
