Welsh Open Stone Skimming Championships 2018

The popular past time of stone skimming

When: 27th May 2018, from 10.30am

Where: Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales

£: It costs £5 to enter

What is it?

This bank holiday weekend, Llanwrtyd Wells in Wales will be hosting the 2018 Welsh Open Stone Skimming Championships.

If you’ve never tried stone skimming, then now is the time to give it a go.  Skimming requires a flat stone and the aim is so get the projectile to skip or bounce along the surface of the water.  Championship skimming attempts usually require the stone to bounce at least three times, and the stones travelling the furthest distance are the winners.

There will be seven categories at this year’s Welsh Open Championship, including competitions for kids, juniors and expert ‘tossers’ in the ‘Stoned’ category. There will also be two sub-categories at this year’s event; the Old Tossers (for those aged 60 and over) and a Team event.  The event will have clay ‘stones’ available for skimming with, although competitors are welcome to bring their own stones along for the championships.
