Pirate skirmishes and swashbuckling music in Brixham

Brixham Pirate Festival 2016

Pirates gather for Brixham Pirate Festival.

When: 5th – 7th May 2018

Where: Brixham, Devon

£: Free

What is it?

Brixham Pirate Festival will take place in Devon from Saturday 5th to Monday 7th May, with swashbuckling live music, historic ships, cannon fire and pirate skirmishes.

There will be plenty of reenactments taking place over the weekend, including a skirmish on a ship, so watch out for marauding pirates wielding guns!

There will also be historical characters on hand to show visitors what life on board a ship was really like. Pirate historian Ed Fox will also be heading to the festival for a spot of storytelling, fiddle-playing and to help dispose of some rum.

Historic ships and family entertainment

Apart from the skirmishes and reenactments, the live music will be one of the festival’s highlights; and this year the programme will include performances from the high-energy Seas of Mirth, Celtic-folk-punk group Black Friday, the Pirates of St Piran, musical marauders Pyrates! and traditional maritime folk band Captain’s Beard.

The pirate festival will begin at 10am on Saturday and Sunday morning with a parade, followed by cannon and firepower at 12pm.  At 3pm on both days there will be a pirate skirmish on the El Galeon.

The festival always encourages visitors to get into the spirit of the event and dress up in their best pirate-themed outfits.
