What is it?
This year’s Record Store Day will take place on Saturday 21st April with a whole host of events and special releases for music fans to enjoy.
The event will see more than 240 independent record stores celebrating their unique culture and atmosphere with performances, giveaways, special offers and even bacon butties!
This year’s Record Store Day will see shops stocked up with a selection of special single and LP releases, which will include re-releases and limited edition vinyl, many from independent record labels. The list of releases is available online so that music geeks can plan their purchases ahead, although queues have already started outside some stores!
Releases come from a wide range of genres and eras, with artists including AC/DC Back in Black (cassette album), Belly Feel (10″), Duran Duran, Duran Duran Budokan (12″ black vinyl), Grandaddy Practice ’97 (12″), Lulu Heaven And Earth And The Stars (Translucent Blue LP + 7″), Lou Reed Animal Serenade (12″ Black vinyl album), The Lovely Eggs This Is Eggland (Special Fried egg vinyl LP), The National Boxer live in Brussels (clear vinyl LP), Suede Suede (25th Anniversary Silver Edition LP), Thelonious Monk Nutty (7″), Wu-Tang Clan Enter The Wu-Tang 36 Chambers (cassette album), and Yes Tormato (12″ picture disc album).
Record Store Day was conceived 11 years ago in the USA and is coordinated by the Entertainment Retailers Association in the UK. The day brings together hundreds of the UK’s independent record shops to celebrate their unique culture.
