By Caroline King - April 19, 2018Posted in : Classes & Workshops, Dance, Fair, Festival, Heritage, Music

Festival of Vintage - York Racecourse When: 21st & 22nd April 2018

Where: York Racecourse, Tadcaster Road, York YO23 1EX

£: Tickets cost £12 per day in advance or £14 on the door.  A weekend ticket costs £22.

What is it?

Take a trip to the past this weekend as York’s Festival of Vintage takes place, celebrating all things vintage from the 1930s to the 1960s.

This year’s festival will feature live music and vintage DJs, dancing competitions, fashion parades, classic vehicles, a vintage beauty parlour and a pop up barber shop. Visitors will be able to browse stalls, attend workshops and take dance lessons.

There will be DJs playing music from the 1930s to the 1960s, with plenty of room for visitors to dance along to their favourite songs.  Those who would like to brush up on their dance skills can head to the new dedicated Vintage Dance Hall and try lessons in Swing, Jive and Lindy Hop.  If you already fancy yourself as a bit of a mover, then why not enter the festival’s dance competition?

Music will come from the likes of rockabilly band Rusti Steel & The Star Tones, tweed-dressed duo The Washboard Resonators, swing band Kals Kats, and traditional style one man band Laurence Marshall.

Festival of Vintage 2014 - York Racecourse Make do and mend workshops will give people to opportunity to try some vintage crafts with the help of Blacksmith Shop Crafts and Vintage Stitches. Make a macrame keyring, learn how to crochet, or try rag rugging and cross stitch embroidery.

There will also be an array of vintage vehicles on display over the weekend, including scooters, cars, buses and caravans.

So why not get dressed up in vintage style and head along for a retro themed weekend?
