What is it?
Londoner Becky Young is launching the Anti-Riot Diet Club in a bid to fight back against the damage that ‘diet culture’ can do and spread the message about the body positivity movement that saved her. The club will launch at The Book Club in London on Tuesday 20th March.
The club will host a series of events, talks and workshops, ranging from Body Positive life drawing classes, ‘Fuck Size Modelling’ workshops, Intuitive Eating workshops, and talks from Body Positive campaigners, writers and professionals.
The launch event will feature a Being Body Powerful panel talk with Megan Crabbe. Crabbe is a campaigner, writer, and author, as well as being known for her Instagram account @bodyposipanda where she posts daily to her 900k+ followers about body acceptance and eating disorder recovery.
Megan Crabbe believes that Body Positivity saved her life, after spending most of it hating her body and being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa aged 14. Although she managed to make a recovery from almost losing her life, Crabbe spent the following years yo-yo dieting, repeatedly gaining and losing hundreds of pounds, and maintaining a hugely negative relationship with food and exercise; until she found the BoPo community.
The idea of the ADRC is to build a rebellious-spirited community, dedicated to fighting back against ‘Diet Culture’ and the dangerous body ideals and standards of beauty that surround it. They aim to empower people to love themselves and believe that diet culture negatively affects our mental, physical and emotional worlds.
