What is it?

Time and Tide Theatre Company present the 50th Anniversary production of This Story of Yours by John Hopkins at the White Bear Theatre in London, from Tuesday 9th to Saturday 27th January.

Nothing I’ve done can be one half as bad as the thoughts in your head. I wouldn’t have your thoughts.

Detective Johnson has killed a man.

Beaten to death a suspected child molester.

His superior and wife want to know what happened.  But does Johnson even understand himself?

Written in 1968 and originally presented at the Royal Court Theatre, This Story of Yours was John Hopkins first stage play, having written several scripts for television, including the popular police series Z Cars.

John Hopkins acclaimed television play Talking to Strangers, a four-part family drama, gave Judi Dench her first major screen role and was hailed by critics as one of the most important dramas of the 1960’s.  Other screen work includes the Sherlock Holmes/Jack the Ripper film Murder by Decree, as well as the James Bond film Thunderball.  Hopkins’ other notable plays include Next of Kin (National Theatre) and Find Your Way Home (London and Broadway).  In 1972 the film version of This Story of Yours was released starring Sean Connery and directed by Sidney Lumet.  Re-titled The Offence it was critically acclaimed and is now considered a cult classic.

Time and Tide Theatre Company was formed in 2009.  Their portmanteau production of Frightmare: Tales of Horror and Hysteria, based on classic horror short stories, completed a successful run in north London before being taken to the Brighton Fringe Festival the following year. They are thrilled to be presenting this 50th Anniversary production at the White Bear Theatre.
